Aims
To instil students with an understanding of, and skill in structural, material and environmental design integration. Presentation of work will take the form of models, diagrams and drawings, and will be presented in exhibition and portfolio format.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Synthesise the constructional, structural, environmental and regulatory requirements and strategies that apply to a design project as an appropriate response to users aspirations and needs, and to the project site context.
2.
Evaluate relevant technical strategies including sustainable design, environmental strategies and regulatory requirements and integrate the most appropriate into a building design project.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:This module explores the technical resolution of a building design (developed in 6121ARC). Students will be encouraged to adopt a rigorous approach to environmental sustainability, materiality and structure. This should include knowledge and practice associated with the ecological impact of design over time.
Additional Information:The philosophical context for this module is climate change, considered as an environmental crisis, a social concern and as a design initiation to meaningfully occupy and inhabit space.
The module explores the technical resolution of the design developed in module 6121ARC. Studies of technology and materials will underpin the module specifically looking at environmental strategies and material specification alongside structural strategies.
