Aims
1. The module aims to develop student understanding by looking at issues that are current and relevant in policing today. It will specifically cover public order and protest, human trafficking and intelligence and security.
2. Students will be provided with an opportunity to consider the nature of policing challenges and responses together with the latest research and policy implications. The issues will also be considered from a social and political perspectives.
3. The module will be underpinned by relevant theoretical perspectives, policy developments and cutting edge empirical research providing students with the opportunity for discussion that is intellectually stimulating and at the forefront of policing scholarship and practice.

Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Human Trafficking - this module will provide a critical understanding of the issues encompassing human trafficking, which includes a comprehension of the definition and the elements that constitute human trafficking, an examination of the phenomenon of human trafficking setting it into a modern context and outlining the problems and the differing types of trafficking.
Public Order and Protest - An examination of the concept of public order, the sociological and psychological theories that seek to explain the causes and dynamics of disorder, the legal issues surrounding public order and the contemporary public order policing challenges.
Intelligence and Surveillance - The student will be introduced to a number of diverse structures and models relating to western intelligence and how that information is assessed, graded, processed and ultimately used in respect of state security and enforcement. A theme will be the on-going debate between legislative frameworks, individual human rights and the ever-increasing demand for state security.
