Aims
Evidence through documentation of an ability to develop an advanced level of contemporary Fine Art practice.
Evidence the development of an advanced critical and theoretical engagement with appropriate methodologies of contemporary Fine Art Practice.
To focus on the various ideas and strands of research towards the development of an advanced contemporary Fine Art Practice and to produce a reflective log that documents this practice.
To equip students with an awareness of post graduate courses, career focus and professional practice through the consolidation of a personal development portfolio (PDP) with onward facing plan.
Learning Outcomes

Document and present the ideas related to the development of their practice over the academic year.

Evidence a substantial and self-reflexive critical framework for the development of Fine Art practice.

Evidence the ability to articulate and present a developed set of personal criteria for critical self-evaluation.

Evidence and demonstrate an advanced understanding of specialist technical skills related to Fine Art practice.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:
Students will receive Lectures, Seminars, Individual Tutorials and Group tutorials, Crits and Cross-Year crits, in support of their Fine Art practice. A strong emphasis is placed on experimental testing of professional independent practice in studio crits, and in an external facing event, supported by staff monitoring. Coursework will consist of ongoing experimentation, work in progress and any completed pieces in any appropriate media, along with any support work and documentation. Career profiles and postgraduate courses will be outlined. Students will be referred to staff with appropriate postgraduate and career knowledge. Students will receive a range of Professional Practice lectures as an adjunct to their studio practice. Involvement with and input from curators and artists via a series of visiting lecture talks, help to develop and refine professional strategies of the students. Parallel to this, appropriate career and postgraduate strategies will be developed through employment related workshops and the encouragement to apply for live sector opportunities. A series of lectures, personal and group surgeries, and seminars will raise career awareness. A statement evidencing work, presented verbally and accompanied by a portfolio of work, forms an integral part of the final assessment.

Additional Information:
The module demands evidence of the student's ability to use rigorous and ongoing experimentation to question and sustain a comprehensively more independent, autonomous and rigorous practice. To achieve this requires a maturing of intension and developing criteria for self-evaluation. Students' ability to produce and distribute their own practice, via a variety of means, will be encouraged.
