Aims
To equip the student with the necessary transferable skills to investigate a research topic and present it using appropriate methods of scientific communication.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Critically analyse literature pertinent to the project with appropriate use of citations and Harvard referencing.
2.
Demonstrate an understanding of and critically evaluate methods of research appropriate to the project and propose future work
3.
Analyse, interpret and present research results in both written and oral forms
4.
Demonstrate a range of employability skills including: time management, initiative and problem solving

Outline Syllabus:
For individual research projects, students will be allowed a choice of subject areas, appropriate to their programme of study, and the project will be developed by the student in discussion with the project tutor.

This course will introduce the student to a research philosophy by providing training and assessment in areas including: use of literature, research skills, experimental design and project planning, risk assessment and ethical issues, analysing and solving problems, oral communication, report writing, self-management and Personal Development Planning.
