Aims
To develop the student towards being an autonomous Cardiology Practitioner, with innovative new skills and associated background knowledge to effectively manage the care of cardiology clients/patients.
To work with patients/clients carers and other health professionals to advance the sphere of practice.
Learning Outcomes

Illustrate an in-depth knowledge of specific conditions, their A&P, pathology and their total management incorporating the latest technical advances (KSF 1,2,3,4,5)

Develop a system for effective case management incorporating history analysis, physical examination and diagnostic variables (KSF 2,7,9,12,13,14)
3.
Develop holistic approaches to patient management, within the boundaries of the Cardiology Practitioner, integrating into the present healthcare system. (KSF 2,3,4,9,10)
4.
Analyse legalities and ethical aspects of care specific to the role (KSF 6)
5.
Critically evaluate the impact of the disease process on the life experiences of people with coronary heart disease and develop strategies which promote health education and patient empowerment(KSF 1,2,6)
6.
Develop pathways of care and strategies which promote collaborative working (KSF 2,4,8,11)
7.
Critically analyse equity and diversity within cardiology care (KSF 1,6)
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Normal and disordered physiology relevant to the cardiac patient. Exploration of assessment strategies most relevant to the specialist pathways. Roles and responsibilities in relation to assessment of individual client groups. Specialist management using an holistic approach which incorporates a review of the patient's journey from first contact, intermediate care and continuing care. Examination of and application of models, care pathways and benchmarking strategies applicable to client groups within the pathways. Review of traditional and complementary modes of management of clients in the context of current evidence based practice. International, national and local initiatives/guidelines with supplement this process (NHS Plan, Patients Charter, NSF, NICE)
Development of interpersonal skills which promote collaborative care. Strategies to promote the health and well being of individuals and prevention of adverse health effects.
Development of skills using specialist equipment and devices. Demonstration of the collection, analysis, and evaluation of evidence and research from a variety of informational base resources. Recognition of environmental factors implicated in the health and well being of individuals. Interpersonal and communication skills in relation to people management. Accountability and legal implications related to quality and standards in relation to health care. Roles and responsibilities in relation to ethical and moral dilemmas encountered within the healthcare setting. Use of audit to enhance care and practice within the clinical setting. Review and examine teaching methods in relation to patient and peer education. Transcultural components incorporating equality and diversity. Consent empowerment and decision making approaches.
