Aims

1. To further develop the student's ability to write independently, preparing the student for the singularity of a writer's life, and the need to be driven and self-motivated in the development of their creative practice.
2. To develop the student's leadership abilities to organise and sustain self-run writing groups.
3. To further increase the student's critical and analytical ability to synthesise the techniques taught in previous modules.
4. To further develop the ability to write to deadlines, maintaining a sense of focus in perfecting a portfolio.
5. To develop further the student's level and quality of contribution.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Edit their own work and that of peers with a high level of rigour and scrutiny, using the views of others in developing creative work to a professional standard.
2.
Formulate considered practical responses to the critical judgements of others, while developing a generous yet rigorous critical scrutiny in peer review and workshop activities.
3.
View themselves as practitioners and reflect critically on their own creative writing practice.
4.
Write a commentary that demonstrates a close analysis of the writing and evidences engagement with the workshop process.
5.
Evidence a sophisticated understanding and application of theory and technique through independent research, creative and critical reading.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Students will be encouraged to work autonomously, and to lead and direct classes. The techniques of the teaching, reading and writing studied at Levels 4 and 5 will be synthesised into writing a portfolio that should be the best possible showcase for the student's writing, accompanied by a reflection that examines their creative processes and what they have learned in both providing and applying feedback. Students will examine areas of writerly concern and interest at an advanced level, developing an understanding of where theory meets practice and examining how this has influenced their creative work.
Module Overview:
This module is designed to encourage the student to use the technical, cognitive andnarrative skills they have acquired to produce a writing portfolio and reflection, usingtheir own strengths and those of the community of writers of which they are a part.As the workshops are based each week on self-chosen areas of writerly concern andprepared readings of peer students' draft work, suggestions for wider reading andgiving thoughtful and detailed critiques, a student's individual contribution is of greatimportance. The students will have the opportunity to work in a team and to take aleadership role. The portfolio may consist of fiction or creative non-fiction. Thereflective essay further develops understanding of writing as a craft, examining boththeory and technique, with application to the student's own creative practice.
