Aims

1. A critical understanding of specialist writing and its importance in all forms of journalism 2.Develop and write original and thoroughly researched material. 2.Take cognisance of the practical, legal and ethical constraints inherent in the process of researching and writing on a particular topic or theme. 3.Acquire a comprehensive understanding of the impact of audience, medium, market, available sources and other constraints on journalistic processes. 4.Utilise a sound capacity for critical examination in the analysis and synthesis of issues relating to journalism practice

Learning Outcomes

Conceptualise, pursue and research story ideas with a topical peg using standard news gathering techniques (including interviews).

Construct, design and develop a variety of feature articles.
3.
Critically reflect on the relationship between the acquisition of practical skills and the wider cognitive and critical approach to the profession.
4.
Analyse and evaluate key issues impacting on magazine production.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Students will develop an understanding of, and practice, a number of specialist areas of journalism. Through a portfolio, of work students will evaluate principles and contemporary developments within these areas.
Module Overview:
This module allows you to develop your understanding of specialist areas of journalism. It will inform your practice and your theory as you will acquire a comprehensive understanding of the impact of audience, medium, market, available sources and other constraints on journalistic processes.
