Aims

The aim of this module is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to effectively lead and manage youth work initiatives and organisations, fostering a deep understanding of leadership principles, management strategies, and ethical considerations within the context of youth work practice.

Learning Outcomes

Critically evaluate contemporary management and leadership theories, including interdisciplinary approaches.
2.
Systematically apply knowledge of resource mobilisation, financial and facilities management, aligning to relevant policy to effectively manage resources, budgets, and facilities across youth work settings.
3.
Effectively construct and deliver on partnership and project proposals alongside national and local strategies for youth work leadership and management which ensure youth work initiatives align with broader programme themes.

Module Overview:
This module is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of leadership and management principles within the context of youth work. It will explore various leadership theories and models, as well as practical strategies for effective management in youth work settings. Students will critically engage with key texts and case studies to develop their leadership and management skills, with a particular focus on ethical considerations and the promotion of positive youth development.

Delivery Format:

This will be a distance learning module, utilising a variety of digital tools and platforms to facilitate interactive and engaging learning experiences.

 

Online Lectures:

Lectures will be pre-recorded and made available to students through the online learning platform. These lectures will cover key concepts, theories, and principles related to youth work, and will be supplemented with additional resources such as readings, videos, and case studies.

 

Online Seminars:

Seminars will be conducted live via video conferencing tools, using interactive tools which promote effective knowledge sharing and collaborative practices. These sessions will provide students with the opportunity to explore, discuss and debate key issues in youth work, facilitated by module tutors. Seminars may also include breakout group discussions and interactive activities to develop learning and connect understanding cross the sector.
