Aims
The module builds upon Music Professional and Creative Practice 1 and further develops successful projects and provides an opportunity to modify and improve projects.
The module offers learners an opportunity to develop vocational music related activities through a practical professional process and is focused toward refining occupational skills and professional preparation in the context of the contemporary music industry.
The module promotes and recognises the nature and diversity of approaches, genres, and media applicable to occupations, performance, and other professional music applications. It requires learners to develop communication skills, plan rehearsals, present or perform ideas and undertake responsibilities to a greater scale and sophistication than previously encountered on the programme.

Practical project supervision & drop-in workshop / tutorial sessions for:
- Songwriting
- Production
- Composition
- Observed band rehearsals
- Open mic performances
- Weekly performance opportunities (The 2ube)
- Other LIPA performances: 2ubeXtra, Acting / Dance shows
The module has five phases:
- Planning and research: As appropriate to the project and in agreement with the seminar lecturer and module leader. In addition, amendments to the project plan, which will then be finalised and submitted to lecturer.
- Rehearsals: Organising and scheduling rehearsals. Lecturers review the project plans and provide formative feedback.
- Setting new aims and objectives, mentoring through group sessions, cultivating new or advancing already established creative ideas and arranging the technical production process.
- Performances and/or presentations: Students engage in and artistically contribute to a range of performances or presentations, and/or a previously agreed music activity, including associated promotional materials and strategies that clearly, demonstrate valid artistic progression.
- Critical appraisal: An assessment tutorial, with reference to the student’s project, reflecting upon their work and will show how the process informs future studies and career objectives.
This module is delivered through lecture and seminar formats, small groups, rehearsals and mentoring support.
Acceptable learning activities:
- Interdepartmental collaborations
- Group work, performance or recording
- Individual project: Students will manage and direct their own project/performance
- Projects/performances directed and facilitated by lecturers, house bands, pit bands and session playing
- Supporting cast, auxiliary players taking part in other departmental performances
- Level 6 performances with students taking The Performer module.
Through this module, you have further opportunity to apply your musical skills to practical projects. These could include collaborations with other subject areas here, playing in a pit band, session playing or developing your own individual project. You identify and plan different musical projects which link to your career ambitions, with your work allowing you to demonstrate your progression as an artist. Through all of this activity, you refine skills which will support you as you embark on life as a professional musician, including business and career planning.
