Aims

This module aims to introduce you to historic performance traditions, styles and genres. You will begin to understand form and performance practice appropriate to the interpretation and realisation of challenging works, requiring contextual research and analysis of stylistic approaches, genre tropes and their technical demands. You will apply your technique this within complex heightened works, examining its scale, technical interdisciplinary processes and its recontextualisation. Additionally, you are required to employ self-management processes to meet project demands, as well as demonstrate collective company ethics.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
This module presents the opportunity to mine historic performance traditions, analysing forms and practice to interpret and recontextualise classic and heightened theatrical works for a contemporary audience. You now engage your interdisciplinary actor’s process to assimilate the skills and techniques required to realise challenging works, engaging with broad and expansive physical expression, vocal musicality, including verse, metre and rhythm, as well as intellectual and emotional depth. You may be tested on the application of these skills across a variety of performance mediums. You will measure your ability to meet these requirements via self-management and interpersonal collective company processes. The trinity of interdisciplinary acting, movement and voice skills is core to the module delivery, as well as personal and interpersonal collaborative practice.
Module Overview:
This project allows you to test your developing process when applied to heighted works, including Shakespeare. You will take further responsibility for realising the demands of the material and are expected to identify appropriate methods and techniques for approaching classic period works. Movement supports your ability to find physical expansion and play within this field, with vocal approaches that allow you to adapt for verse and metre, as well as differing performance spaces.
