Aims
Level 5 Studio Recording will build on core studio competencies encountered at Level 4 and also introduce new content in the areas of sampling, synthesis and MIDI, in order to help students adopt increasingly sophisticated and professional approaches in their studio-based practise.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Use advanced analogue and digital production consoles efficiently and effectively.
2.
Choose appropriate technical tools and methods to solve defined engineering and production needs.
3.
Design MIDI control environments to control hardware and software devices.
4.
Record, mix and master multi-track recordings to a defined brief, making use of automation, EQ, effects and dynamics processors, samplers, and synthesizers as appropriate.
5.
Explain the function and application of specialist tools employed in a music recording studio environment.

Module Overview:
Students will learn increasingly complex and sophisticated studio tools and incorporate these into their studio-based practice. These will include a range of analogue, digital, hybrid and virtual consoles, samplers & synthesizers, and advanced MIDI & synchronisation protocols. We will also revisit core studio tools introduced at Level 4 and apply them with increasing sophistication in the processes of recording, mixing, and mastering a high-quality recorded work.
