Outline Syllabus:
The syllabus is highly practical and builds on the choreographic work at level 4. Students will expand and deepen their choreographic practice by investigating a variety of themes and contexts, such as a) Multi-disciplinary collaboration, for example, choreography in relation to music and sound, costume design, staging, or lighting design b) Performance modes and settings: site-specific performance; immersive practice; technology in performance, specific performance modes (e.g. durational), performer-spectator relationship c) The role of dance and art within wider sociological and environmental contexts with link to the student's learning in Contextual Dance Studies (public space and intervention; artivism and social responsibility, community engagement and contexts) Students will learn through lectures, practical workshops and set research tasks to investigate the various fields, including key artists and working practices. They will apply their learning in choreographic studies working within devising teams, as well as in directorial roles. Students will share their choreographic work within a public performance setting.
