Aims

1. Acquire a consistent embodiment of studied Contemporary dance techniques. 2. Perform an increasingly complex range of movement vocabulary. 3. Extend the use of variation in dynamic phrasing, appropriate use of space, and strong performance presence. 4. Develop the capacity to apply learnt Contemporary technique into Contemporary repertoire.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Students will consolidate and expand the core skills established in their training in level 4. Emphasis is placed on advancing technical, creative and expressive skills through refining anatomical awareness, range of motion, articulation, proprioception, weight transfer, flow, musicality and dynamics, phrasing and body connections. Students will develop a deeper understanding of their bodies' capabilities and will be encouraged to explore movement with greater physicality. Practical sessions will be underpinned by theoretical and academic study and reflection. Training in techniques relevant to current contemporary practice continue from level 4, with studies in Release based techniques, Flying Low, Gaga, Contact Improvisation and Partnering. Students will be guided to link their learning in this module to their studies in Classical Technique 2 and Associated Techniques 2, to broaden their understanding and knowledge of the expanding spectrum or styles and techniques within the Contemporary Dance field. Contemporary Dance repertory will be introduced to explore the application of technical skills into performance.
Additional Information:This module builds and expands on the Contemporary dance techniques introduced in level 4. Assessment is via a formally assessed class and repertoire performance.
