Module Content

Outline Syllabus:This module aims to continue to broaden range and versatility in the contemporary performer. The techniques introduced in level 4 (Urban dance, Improvisation and Text/Body/Voice) will be further developed as aids to confident performance and tools to enrich creative skills. Urban Dance Technique Students will further develop their technical ability and artistic skills in the Urban dance forms studied at level 4. The emphasis at level 5 will be on enhancement of precision, musicality, versatility, performance and theatricality in high impact and high energy dance styles. Improvisation Technique Building on level 4 studies, students will further research movement possibilities in response to stimuli and tasks. Students will be supported in the exploration of improvisation technique as a performance form, and a tool in movement and choreographic creation. They will be guided in the research of personal movement vocabulary, aesthetics and explorations of hybrid forms. Text, Body & Voice Students will be further supported in expanding their skills for performance, recognising their own personal and creative potential in performance by experimenting with acting techniques and principles. Students will for example undertake explorations in Physical and Dance Theatre, incorporating voice and vocal techniques. Other techniques might be introduced to enrich and enhance the module.
Additional Information:This module builds on skills learned at level 4 and equips students with advanced training in important associated techniques relevant to the development of a young, contemporary dance artist. Assessment is via 2 practical class-based presentations.
