To build on students' knowledge of the decision making process in criminal justice in England and Wales

To explore the role of risk in the decision making process
To examine the decision making process via criminal justice case studies

Outline Syllabus:Thinking about decision making and decision makers
Decision making theories and perspectives
Contextualising decision making and decision makers
The role of 'risk' in decision making
Criminal justice case studies in decision making from the reporting and recording of crime through to sentencing and punishment
Additional Information:This module aims to further develop students' understanding of the decision making process in criminal justice in England and Wales. Key players and key decisions will be contextualised in relation to the practitioners frame and field of reference. The pivotal role played by 'risk', risk assessment, risk aversion and risk management will be critically examined. The key players and key decisions will be critically investigated via case studies centring on reporting, recording, sentencing and punishment.
