Aims

1. Provide opportunity to study other industry techniques for example one or more techniques/styles drawn from the spectrum of Commercial Dance Styles. 2. Enhance the ability to apply improvisation techniques in different settings. 3. Refine personal processes for and knowledge of the vocabulary of choreography.

Learning Outcomes

Present self within the stylistic codes and vocabulary of the Commercial Dance Styles technique studied.

Apply improvisation techniques to the devising of original dance material.

Devise choreographed material which responds to specific stimuli and context.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Commercial Dance Styles Technique comprises a wide range of dance genres for example Hip Hop, Breaking', Pop-ping or Locking. The students will experience the styles as timetabled for the academic year and thereby semester 1 study will differ to semester two study. Irrespective of style the emphasis throughout the year will be on the enhancement of precision, musicality, performance, and theatricality. Improvisation Technique Students will be supported in the exploration of improvisation technique as a performance form, and as a tool in choreographic creation. Exercises will be used to research movement possibilities in response to stimuli and tasks. They will be guided in the research of personal movement vocabulary and aesthetics to expand and deepen their choreographic practice.
Additional Information:
This module equips students with different performance techniques and choreographic knowledge. Assessment is via two presentations.
