Aims
1. Develop core dance technique and performance skills required of a musical theatre performer.
2. Develop skills in muscle memory, musicality and rhythm, and the ability to learn and replicate choreographic material.
3. Develop an understanding of communicative and expressive dance in the context of musical theatre performance.
4. Develop an informed personal approach to acting techniques for an expanded range of forms including more complex and heightened texts.
5. Develop the ability to use appropriate methodology for the interrogation of a variety of dramatic texts.
6. Further develop professional practice as a performing artist to encourage a more pro-active and independent approach to learning.
7. Further develop understanding of the importance of collaboration, teamwork, preparation and professional practice for the actor.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Apply an advanced level of practical skill in the movement vocabulary, technique, creative and expressive analysis of practices of Jazz dance and dance for musical theatre.
2.
Demonstrate an analytical understanding of the actors process and the ability to apply it to increasingly diverse contexts and roles.
3.
Analyse and apply appropriate performance techniques when interrogating and performing text or movement-based work.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Through the study of ballet and jazz dance, students will explore and develop the core skills of dance and dance training: Centre work/ Barre, floor work, travelling, sequences and combination, postural alignment, extension, placement, and centring principles.
Through weekly tutor led workshops in acting, students will further develop their understanding of their relationship to acting technique. Through scene study students will develop their approaches to the implicit meaning and the directorial clues embedded within the text.
Additional Information:This module equips students with skills in the areas of Dance (Ballet and Jazz) and acting techniques.
Assessment is via two live performances.
