Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Acting will engage students with an increased range of methods, techniques and theories continuing from those explored in Level 4. Students will investigate classic text as the means to engage with heighted speech and characterisation. Students will continue to explore ensemble work through musical theatre texts, studying historical periods, plot, style, thought, language, action, theatricality and meaning. This ensemble component will also develop techniques such as connectedness and availability, impulse and dramatic action in both rehearsal and performance. The development of text interpretation will require students to establish methods of interpretation and develop as a reflective musical theatre actor. After consolidating the work in Level 4, students will begin to work on the principals of British and American accents, in particular, Received Pronunciation (RP) and General American. Students will engage in on-going vocal development with particular focus on the relationship between the voice and the body. Students will be guided on how to apply reliable vocal technique, physiological understanding of character and to understand placement, rhythm and rules of a specific accent.
Additional Information:This module equips students with a developed understanding of classic and musical theatre texts whilst consolidating further exploration of dialect and efficient vocal technique. Assessment is via live, studio-based presentations.
