Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
The module comprises two parts:

Creating New Work 2 - Building on the work in L4, the students will develop devising skills by creating and performing a devised piece. The performance may explore a theme, period, or an issue or variety of issues. This will be chosen in response to the group.

Students will continue to explore a range of devising techniques for generating new work. They will also consider aspects of its staging. The aim is to enable the students to create their own theatrical pieces and to be able to work with companies or directors that uses these types of processes..

For the assessment, students will present their work in front of a selected audience. Students will be required to keep a workbook documenting the process and they will present this in a Viva Voce with tutors as Part 2 of the assessment. This gives them an opportunity to critically reflect on the development and performance of their work.

Self-Led Lab - Students will be given studio space to develop their own work, in whatever style and format they choose. They will have the opportunity to present their 'work in progress' to an invited audience. This is an opportunity for students to manage their own process and performance, and staff participation will be minimal. This will not be assessed.
Additional Information:
This module equips students with the knowledge, skills and experience to devise and create new work.  Assessment is via a Performance and Viva Voce.
