Aims

To provide students with the opportunity to review employment and self-employment possibilities available within the music, entertainment, theatre and events industries; to evaluate their own skills and attributes, and develop a career or business plan and focused employment application; and to undertake relevant professional practice.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Apply their knowledge and understanding of employment and self-employment opportunities in order to develop a suitable career plan or business plan
2.
Evaluate their own strengths and weaknesses, and the requirements of employers, in order to create a focused application for a suitable employment opportunity
3.
Analyse their own and others’ interview techniques.
4.
Participate in a range of professional practice activities which contribute to their own personal development
5.
Summarise and analyse their own professional practice and personal development throughout the period of study on the module.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Employment and self-employment in music, entertainment, theatre and events industries Evaluating employers’ needs Preparing a professional application package Career development and planning Interview processes and techniques Professional Practice Students will be expected to undertake a minimum of 50 hours of professional practice. Students will be provided with regular support and guidance to help them to identify and take advantage of opportunities for professional practice. Professional practice could include collaborative projects; relevant work or voluntary experience; and enterprise activities.
