To understand concepts of professionalism and how they apply to the primary phase.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Identify and evaluate theoretical ideas relating to professionalism.

Investigate how theories apply to the primary phase
3.
Analyse tensions between notions of professionalism and how these might be resolved.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:What is the difference between a professional and a practitioner?
The role of ‘the professional’ in classroom practice
Is it ever right to be ‘unprofessional’? Examining tension in the professional role of a teacher
Alternative notions of professionalism
Module Overview:
The block Professional project placement is embedded within this module and the aim is to develop knowledge of research methods, as appropriate to the programme of study, and how they are applied in the field. This module will engage students in reflections on the block Professional project placement and support the development of student enquiry. Students will reflect on their experiences and engage in the processes necessary to write an academic research proposal for consideration and adaptation at level 6.
