Aims
This module aims to develop students’ understanding of the impact that special educational needs, disabilities and life-limiting conditions can have on the individual and the family. The roles and responsibilities of a range of professionals who collaborate with, and support, these individuals and families will be explored.
Learning Outcomes

Analyse issues that may impact upon the families of those with SEND
2.
Reflect upon the attitudes towards the family from the wider society
3.
Examine the support services/agencies and professionals involved in supporting those with SEND and their families
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:• Initial diagnosis
• The parent/child as a carer
• SEND, finance and relationships
• Supporting siblings
• Overview of agencies involved in working with those with SEND and their families, in particular: Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, charity/voluntary sector, and bereavement support
• Multi-agency working
• Barriers to collaborative work

Additional Information:This module provides students with the opportunity to consider the possible issues faced by families who have a member with SEND, and the role of practitioners in supporting the individual and the family.
