Aims

This module aims to provide students with a broad understanding of contemporary sport legislation and bodies involved within the regulation, administration and operation of sport. It will also explore the relationship between sport and the law focusing on sports regulation and jurisprudence and their impact on sports delivery.

Learning Outcomes

Evaluate the concepts, principles and values of law within the sport environment.

Appraise how legal issues apply to sport participation, governance, regulation and management of sport.
3.
Define and analyse the influences of the law on the development of sport and on the sporting landscape.

Outline Syllabus:Introduction to the legal system in the UK Regulation and Governance of Sport Sport, Competition and the Law Sport and the Law of the European Union The Commercial Integrity of sport The Regulation of Drugs in Sport Sport, Match Fixing and Corruption Regulation of violence in sport Lawful Sports Discrimination, harassment and child protection Tort Law
Module Overview:
This module aims to provide you with a broad understanding of contemporary sport legislation and bodies involved within the regulation, administration and operation of sport. It will also explore the relationship between sport and the law focusing on sports regulation, jurisprudence and their impact on sports delivery.
Additional Information:This module places the law in relation to sport in a social and economic context. The module also aims to draw together the students' knowledge from other modules on the programme to provide an understanding of the role of law in the sports environment.
