Aims

To develop foundational knowledge in educational research methods and data analysis to give students key skills for use in their dissertation, further academic study and later careers.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Explore the foundations of research methods, designs and ethical considerations in educational research.
2.
Develop foundational skills in the analysis of data in educational research.
3.
Understand the principles of presenting research and data in academic journals.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Quantitative data analysis

Qualitative data analysis.

Research methods and methodology.

Epistemological and ontological underpinnings of research designs.

Ethical considerations in conducting research.
Module Overview:
This module will be taught through a combination of lectures, workshop and online study. Topics will be covered with introductory lectures followed by workshops involving group work and practical activities. In between those times students will engage with online materials to support their understanding and scaffold their reading and reflection on research issues.
Additional Information:
This module provides a firm foundation for the core level 6 research module 6201EdStud, later study and their future careers.
