Aims

1. To expose students to a range of applied arts and design that are on the periphery of classic History of Art.

2. To introduce students to the diversity of practices and techniques employed within design and applied arts.

3. To inform students about the complex social and historical contexts for the production of design and applied arts.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Typical sessions could include: History of: Textiles, Ceramics, Furniture, Jewellery, Stained Glass, Fashion, Garden design, film and architecture
Module Overview:
This module enables students to explore design history and applied arts. Students will be informed about arts and crafts such as ceramics, furniture, jewellery and silver and will develop the facilities to analyse these subject areas critically with an understanding of the theoretical underpinnings and social environments surrounding the disciplines.
