Aims

The aims for this module are to develop explorative processes in architectural design thinking, production, technical studies, and representation. Whilst, students will continue to develop their abilities in creative detailed design and detailed resolution of their design project, they will focus on exploring the integrated consideration of technical issues in relation to their design project, such as materials choice and detailed technical strategies, underpinned by principles of sustainability.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Prepare and present a considered technical study of medium scale and complexity, using a range of media, and in response to a brief.
2.
Develop and demonstrate a responsive approach to architectural design that integrates aesthetic aspects, user needs and the technical requirements of structure, materiality and construction.
3.
Explore and apply relevant lines of inquiry relating to structural strategy, construction and materiality, and the demonstration of alternatives, to the architectural design project.
4.
Communicate these inquiries and their outcomes through a range of visual communication materials.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
The module will seek to further seamlessly integrate explorative processes in the resolution of a design project. A focus on explorative thinking and designing will continue throughout this module. Students will explore and integrate the consideration of technical issues in relation to their design project, such as materials choice and detailed technical strategies (structure, construction and materiality), underpinned by principles of sustainability.
Module Overview:
This module will develop your knowledge of explorative processes in architectural design thinking, production, technical studies, and representation. You will further develop your abilities in creative detailed design and detailed resolution of their design project. Alongside this, you will also explore the integrated consideration of technical issues in relation to your design project. This module comprises one assignment; to demonstrate the tectonic resolution of this design project.
