Aims
To enable a student to undertake an in-depth and defined research on a topic shaped either as a policy brief, report, or evidence for a live or closed government select committee or other established inquiry.
To develop student’s ability to plan, implement and complete a substantial piece of written work under the guidance of an expert who has subject expertise.
To develop student’s ability of students to critically engage and analyse a range of sources in a clear and articulate manner.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Define an International Relations and Politics problem and analyse it with appropriate depth and clarity.
2.
Demonstrate in-depth specialised and critical knowledge of a specific IR and Politics topic along with the academic debates relating to it.
3.
Present an articulate and coherent argument with appropriate detail in a written and/or oral format dependent on what route you are taking.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:
Students will do either one of three options in this module:
1. Write a policy brief for a governmental or non-governmental organisation.
2. Write a report on a topic for a governmental or non-governmental organisation.
3. Write testimony or evidence to a open or closed government inquiry such as a select committee or White Paper evidence gathering.

This module provides you with the opportunity to develop an in-depth understanding of a particular topic related to International Relations and Politics, and enables you to develop the necessary research skills for the work place and prepares you for your Level 6 research project module.
