Aims
1. To build on students’ previous learning to prepare them to work independently and as part of a newsroom team as multi-skilled researchers, reporters and producers in radio, television and online news, and, current affairs programming in a multi- platform environment.
2. An introduction to editorial and production roles and skills for news and current affairs programmes.
3. To develop Mobile newsgathering skills using smart technology
4. To develop students’ ability to critically evaluate, analyse and reflect upon their learning.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Use newsroom, studio facilities and software to produce news bulletins and copy demonstrating a clear recognition of sourcing and journalistic content for different story treatments.
2.
Undertake a variety of editorial and production roles in TV and Radio, and show a knowledge of responsibilities and the importance of teamwork.
3.
Use mobile technology in the production of audio and video story treatments for multimedia platforms.
4.
Demonstrate and apply journalism skills underpinned by ethical, accurate and impartial newsgathering and storytelling, from sourcing to presenting news.
5.
Further develop technical skills in the production of story treatments for a variety of media platforms.
6.
Critically reflect on their personal performance and contributions using relevant theory to support analysis
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:Students will develop news judgement and research skills in the production of news bulletins and artefacts for TV, Radio and online. They will work both as individuals and team members to produce content for a variety of media platforms. They will build on previously acquired knowledge in using electronic newsroom systems, audio and video recording and editing and mobile journalism, to produce broadcast stories in line with current professional broadcast practice. They will undertake live storytelling, and show developing skills in writing for broadcast and online outlets, including structure, introductions, writing to pictures, story treatments and broadcast presentation skills.
Module Overview:
This module builds on your skills developed during the Professional Practice and Reporting modules at Level 4 and the first semester Developing Broadcast Skills and Online News modules in the first semester of Level 5. You will develop news judgement and research skills in the production of news bulletins and artefacts for TV, Radio and online. You will be introduced to editorial and production roles and skills for news and current affairs programmes, alongside the opportunity to develop mobile newsgathering skills using smart technology.
