Aims
To engage students in the techniques and processes associated with adaptation for the stage from a primary stimulus
To offer the opportunity for students to work collaboratively in producing new work for theatrical performance
To equip and facilitate students' capacity for peer and self-evaluation
Learning Outcomes
1.
Develop a performance text responding appropriately and effectively to the 'primary source'
2.
Demonstrate application of specialised ‘theatre making’ skills required to produce and perform new work
3.
Analyse and evaluate their own and peers' acceptance of responsibility for achieving personal and group outcomes
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:The project will be tutor led in providing a stimulus (e.g. book, poem, piece of music, picture) from which to develop a piece of theatrical performance through workshop development and associated research. All students will contribute to the development of the ‘text’ and a range of theatrical genres/styles and extant work suitable as a model, appropriate to the primary source, will be explored. The final piece of work will be shared to a public audience; this does not necessarily mean a full production, but could for example be a staged reading.
Students will have the option to participate in rehearsal and performance in a variety of ways, and have the option to focus on roles other than performer. These might include, technician, musician, musical director, company manager, et al. This flexibility allows the student to pursue and begin to develop their chosen interests. These roles are agreed with the staff member.
Tutors will also guide students through the principles and process of self and peer assessment at the start and students are expected to use their logbook as means of evidencing their evaluation on completion of the project.
