Aims

To facilitate students in conducting rigorous research into an issue relevant to their own youth work area, providing them with the necessary skills, knowledge, and support to formulate research questions, design methodologically sound studies, and produce high-quality research outputs that contribute to the advancement of youth work practice and scholarship.

Learning Outcomes

Use relevant literature and existing research to identify gaps and formulate research questions pertinent to their youth work area, demonstrating a critical understanding of research methodologies and ethical considerations.
2.
Implement a methodologically rigorous research project, utilising appropriate data collection and analysis techniques to investigate the chosen issue within their youth work context.
3.
Compare and contrast findings from their research with existing literature and practice, demonstrating the ability to draw meaningful conclusions and propose practical recommendations for enhancing youth work practice.

Module Overview:
This module is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to undertake a professional research project. Building on their previous learning of research methods, students will apply this knowledge to their own research project, evaluating the effectiveness of different methods and approaches. The module will also cover ethical considerations in research and the importance of critical thinking and reflection.

Delivery Format:

This will be a distance learning module, utilising a variety of digital tools and platforms to facilitate interactive and engaging learning experiences.

 

Online Lectures:

Lectures will be pre-recorded and made available to students through the online learning platform. These lectures will cover key concepts, theories, and principles related to youth work, and will be supplemented with additional resources such as readings, videos, and case studies.

 

Online Seminars:

Seminars will be conducted live via video conferencing tools. These sessions will provide students with the opportunity to discuss and debate key issues in youth work, facilitated by module tutors. Seminars may also include breakout group discussions and interactive activities.
