Aims
To enable students to conduct a critical review of safeguarding policies, procedures, and practices within their own professional context, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and ethical understanding necessary to assess and enhance safeguarding measures that ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable individuals, particularly young people, within their care or influence.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Compare various youth work supervision models, including reflective practice, line management, and peer supervision, and consider their application in safeguarding practices.
2.
Analyse national and local plans and strategies relevant to youth work and young people and evaluate their impact on safeguarding policies and practices.
3.
Differentiate between the roles, remit, and responsibilities of key stakeholders in safeguarding, including youth workers, designated safeguarding leads, local authorities, and other relevant agencies, and understand how these roles intersect and collaborate in safeguarding young people.

Module Overview:
This module is designed to equip professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively integrate safeguarding principles (including statutory guidance) into their practice. It covers key concepts such as risk assessment, confidentiality, and multi-agency working, providing learners with a comprehensive understanding of how to safeguard vulnerable individuals in a variety of settings. Through a combination of theoretical learning and practical application, participants will develop the confidence and competence to identify and respond to safeguarding concerns, ensuring the safety and well-being of those they work with.

Lectures will be pre-recorded and made available to students through the online learning platform. These lectures will cover key concepts, theories, and principles related to youth work, and will be supplemented with additional resources such as readings, videos, and case studies.

Seminars will be conducted live via video conferencing tools. These sessions will provide students with the opportunity to discuss and debate key issues in youth work, facilitated by module tutors. Seminars may also include breakout group discussions and interactive activities.
