Aims

This module aims to provide students with a range of musicianship skills including aural, improvisation, interpretation and rhythmic awareness skills that will support their work and study and development as a musician.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Identify, recall, notate and transcribe intervals, chords, melodies and rhythmic patterns.
2.
Identify and engage with the development of necessary musical skills to enable creative and professional aspirations and review and reflect on progress made.
3.
Demonstrate music theory, music technology and supporting musical skills and techniques appropriate to study specialisms and creative and professional aspirations.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
A range of music skills designed to enhance and support musicians in their work, study and development. Aural skills, basic arranging techniques, music technology and studio induction, music notation software and choir. 
Module Overview:
AuralSkills seminars will develop students' recognition of musical intervals, chords, scales, melodies and rhythmic patterns.

Rhythmic Awareness seminars will introduce the fundamental elements of Latin-American and West-African percussion as well as developing overall rhythmic awareness and literacy within popular, contemporary and commercial music.

Improvisation workshops will practically apply these aural and rhythmic awareness skills developed by students in a creative setting, working within the genres of Jazz and Popular Music.

Repertory workshops will develop students' interpretive skills within a performance context with opportunities to apply these skills in practical performance settings.
