Aims

Instrumental/Vocal Technique 1 aims to develop specific vocal and instrumental skills and techniques as detailed in the vocal and instrumental syllabi. In addition, general performance related skills (i.e. study, rehearsal, preparation and presentation skills) will be developed. An understanding of a range of performance related subjects (style/genre, interpretation, and improvisation) will be developed to provide a foundation for future development in technique and performance.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Demonstrate engagement with instrumental/vocal performance practice, study, rehearsal, preparation, presentation and performance techniques through daily/weekly study, practice and documenting feedback and subsequent actions taken.
2.
Demonstrate musical and technical proficiency in scales, modes, chords, sight reading and instrumental or vocal technical exercises.
3.
Recall performance techniques, interpretation and improvisation skills in a variety of musical styles, genres and settings.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Students develop a disciplined practice regime under the tutelage of vocal or instrumental specialist tutors, following the curriculum laid out in the individual instrument or vocal syllabi. This is enhanced by group vocal workshops or group improvisation workshops.
Module Overview:
One-to-one weekly instrumental or vocal lessons run for twenty four weeks and are enhanced by weekly workshops in vocal repertory for singers and improvisation for instrumentalists.
