Aims
The module aims to provide students with the opportunity to bring elements of their first-year studies together in music practical projects. The module is designed to assist students in applying their studies through developing and planning of professional activities and experimental non-formal learning activities. Students identify music related objectives, applying given tools/knowledge learned during the course, resolving any problems that occur and fostering an appreciation of the complexities in the music industry/discipline. This will include demonstrating an ability to plan, manage time and communicate clearly in a format appropriate to the activity.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Identify and engage in professionally focussed music activities and opportunities reflecting personal musical strengths and creative and professional aspirations.
2.
Perform a variety of supporting roles in, and contribute to a range of, professionally focused music performance, creation, songwriting or production activities and outputs.
3.
Explain and utilise the professional, legal, financial, technological, and industrial frameworks necessary to develop professionally focused creative musical outputs.
4.
Identify strategies and practices that contribute to the ongoing development of commercial and artistic success, review progress and apply feedback and insights to future actions and strategies.
Module Content

Engagement with Music Industry Structures:
There will be opportunities for practical development of songwriting, production, composition and band rehearsals. Students will also be involved in open mic performances, weekly performance opportunities (The 2ube), and other LIPA performances: 2ubeXtra, Open Mic, Jukebox Shuffle Acting / Dance shows.
The module has four phases:
Engagement with Music Industry Structures:
- Music industry registrations
- Copyright and intellectual property
- Music contracts and agreements
- Engaging with the local / regional music industry
- Practical project supervision and drop-in workshop / tutorial sessions.
There will be opportunities for practical development of songwriting, production, composition and band rehearsals. Students will also be involved in open mic performances, weekly performance opportunities (The 2ube), and other LIPA performances: 2ubeXtra, Open Mic, Jukebox Shuffle Acting / Dance shows.
The module has four phases:
- Planning and research, project design and management.
- Rehearsal and preparation techniques, assessing ideas.
- Production, the creative process, group sessions, cultivating and advancing creative ideas, aligning the technical production process.
- Critical appraisal: how the process informs future studies, the next phase and career objectives.
