Aims
The aim of this module is to introduce students to the production process in relation to the realisation of the set and costume elements. The students should come out of the module with a keen sense of what it takes to get a show on, how it runs (particularly in relation to costume) and how to safely dispose/salvage elements in an organised and ecologically correct manner.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Work effectively within a group in the production of scenic and costume elements with sensitivity, commitment, enthusiasm and team spirit.
2.
Work effectively with a range of making and construction materials.
3.
Employ and evaluate good health and safety practice.
4.
Evaluate the production process in relation to workshop skills and the scenic workshop department and costume skills and the wardrobe department. Appraise their role in the production process.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:
The module will begin with an extended series of lectures and practical demonstrations covering vital health and safety procedures and essential theatre etiquette. Some of this content will be shared with the Theatre and Production Technology (TPT) course on their Essential Production Skills module.
The bulk of the module will be an allocation or allocations within the wardrobe and construction workshop on a LIPA production. This will sometimes be on one show, but occasionally split across two productions depending on the scale and scope of the design. Crucially the students will get to work directly with production teams made up of Level 5 and 6 students and collaborate and encounter a wide range of LIPA performers.
