Aims
To establish the principles and conventions for the quantification of domestic construction works

Identify standard methods & techniques of measurements in building works

Measure and produce low rise domestic buildings using various industry standard guidelines and documentation

Prepare preamble and preliminary items.

Use Information Technology and appropriate software packages to produce project documentation to a professional standard.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:
Introduction to standard methods of measurement, measurement conventions, guidelines and documentation. Measurement skills, writing dimensions, calculating simple areas and volumes pertaining to built assets. Measurement of buildings Prepare unpriced Bill of Quantities for domestic building elements Prepare preamble and preliminary items Demonstrate the use of Provisional Sum and Prime Cost. Introduce software packages to building measurement and documentation.

This module establishes the principles and conventions for the quantification of building works and considers their application by the Quantity Surveyor, as part of his/her key role in the economic management of the construction process.
