Aims

This module aims to introduce you to critical and contextual research skills and how to interpret these concepts in studied material. It will arm you with the intellectual skills to apply in your own work, introducing collaborative working methods to self-generate material. You will be provided with an understanding of creative and collaborative working strategies, as well as the planning skills to realise this process.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
This module provides you with the introductory frameworks to research, generate and realise creative projects. Research practices will contribute to your critical and intellectual understanding of studied material, as well as the contextual underpinning of your own creative practice. Narrative and performance-making sessions allow you to recognise ways in which you can generate original works through devised approaches, as well as alternative methods such as verbatim and site-specific approaches. You will work in a small group, recognising ensemble, collaborative, and interpersonal ethics, to create a short staged, digital or audio performance work. Initial business and enterprise skills also provide an understanding of the ‘nuts-and-bolts’ necessary to plan for project management, understand audience demographics, the cultural resonance and relevancy of created works alongside creative and imaginative skills. The consolidation of critical, contextual and cultural perspectives, pragmatic project planning skills, and collaborative creation skills is core to the module delivery.
Module Overview:
In this module, you will develop the necessary skills to create original live work and extend your ability to work as part of a creative ensemble. Furthermore, you will undertake research and development, understanding fresh and relevant cultural perspectives to give your work meaning as well as acknowledging the role an audience plays in the reception of your work. This module introduces notions of business and enterprise, criticality and creation, as part of the artists ongoing practice.
