Aims

To provide an introduction to Boolean Logic and the operation of combinational and sequential digital logic circuits.

Learning Outcomes

Examine electronics through analysing and designing basic combinational & sequential logic circuits related experiments

Digital Systems and Binary Numbers
  • Digital Systems
  • Number Conversions
  • Binary Corded Decimal
  • 1’s and 2’s Compliment
  • Gray Code

 

Boolean Algebra and Logic Gates
  • Boolean Logics
  • Logic Gates and Functions
  • DE Morgan’s Theorems and gate equivalence.
  • POS and SOP functions
  • K – Map Simplification
  • NAND and NOR implementation

 

Combinational Logic
  • Combinational Logic Circuits
  • Adders & Subtractor
  • Decoders & Encoders
  • Multiplexer & Demultiplexers
  • Comparators

 

Sequential Logic
  • Digital logic and combinational circuits Latches and Flip-Flops:
  • SR latch, Latches as contact-bounce eliminators, Edge triggered SR, D-type, J-K Flip-Flops.
  • Digital Counters: asynchronous and synchronous counters concept, Counter design using S-R/JK/D-type flip-flops. Shift Registers: serial shift registers, serial in-parallel out shift registers, bidirectional shift registers & timers.
  • Sequential circuits design. Use CAD tools to carry out circuit design and simulation.
