Aims
The aim of this module is to introduce students to core principles and practices of audio capture and manipulation. Microphone types and techniques will be explored as well as recording audio on location and in studio. Editing and working with audio files will also be explored to enable students to capture and utilise audio in their production practices.
Learning Outcomes

Evaluate different approaches to recording sound sources and apply techniques and equipment that are appropriate to each circumstance.

Produce examples of audio to a professional standard.

Appraise various approaches to sound recording and processing to correct or enhance audio.

Apply safe working practices within studio, classroom, and location environment to enable safe audio systems operation.

Outline Syllabus:
The module is designed to provide students with a structured introduction to audio recording and production techniques. Topics will include fundamentals of sound; interconnections and gain; microphones, DAWs, health and safety protocols; location recording; equalisation; dynamics processing; time-based processing; deliverables; introduction to mastering.

Module Overview:
This module will introduce students to the key skills of audio recording and post-production. As this module is delivered on location and in the studio, the module provides an insight into standard industry practices of audio production. The course content is designed to provide students with the tools to produce high quality audio, within the digital and analogue domains.
