Aims

To introduce students to professional technical and craft practices as used in general media production including: equipment competence, managing and organising tasks, people and resources; working to specifications; and applying safe and reliable systems of work.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:Digital standards & formats, sample rates and quality, sync, connections Workflow & setup Data wrangling – management of clips, takes and storage Manual vs auto settings Audio capture Mic selection & levels Basic photography concepts, prime lenses Capturing the image (depth of field, shutter speed, aperture, gain, white balance) Video camera operations Shooting procedure - take sequence, shot log, continuity Shooting with a DSLR, DSLR audio (second system sound) Shooting procedure - take sequence, shot log, continuity "Film-look" cinematography Lighting set ups
Additional Information:The module is focused towards the skills of audio & video production. The module will introduce students to the equipment used in audio and video production. Students will be required to work both individually and in small groups using equipment to become familiar with its characteristics in a way that also demonstrates safe and reliable systems of work.
