Aims

This module introduces the fundamental electrical and electronic concepts for Automotive Engineering. So the students will be able to understand and apply Automotive related Electronic components and systems.

Learning Outcomes

1.
Identify the basic laws of electrical principles and solve simple problems of KCL and KVL.
2.
Solve problems related to principles of electromagnetism, basic principles of DC machines, AC machines, single phase transformers and 3 phase systems and solve simple problems
3.
Describe and identify the basic Vehicle electronic components, diagnostics and systems
4.
Simulate DC and AC circuits in the laboratory with computer software, and Electrical and Electronics laboratory equipment

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
Electrical circuits, Conservation laws, Circuit elements and Solving circuits. Op-amps and feedback. Electro-magnetism. Transformers, Introduction to dc machines and Applications. Measuring Instruments. Semi-conductor materials and development. Introduction to transistors, diodes. Analog & Digital signals. AND, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR & XOR gates. Electronic software simulation. Basics of Electronics in Automotive.  Automotive sensors and actuators CAN layer and electrical characteristics Basics of advance driver assistance. Automotive harness Electronic control unit Frame format, Arbitration, Types of error frames. Diagnostics Future trends in Automotive electronics.
Module Overview:
This module aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of the vehicle electronics fundamentals for Automotive Engineering and helps you to apply these techniques within Automotive engineering context.
Additional Information:
This module provides a theoretical, practical and software based simulation learning experience of electronics for use in the analysis and solution of automobile engineering.
