Aims
This module is designed to ensure that the student can place their work and the work of others in both a broad socio-cultural context and within the context of the theories and practice of their own practical discipline. Central to the success of the module is the development of critical and analytical skills that will form the foundations for their work throughout their study.
Module Content
Outline Syllabus:
The module will provide a framework for the understanding of the historical relationship between design and technology and the performing arts and help to develop critical and analytical skills, extending both range of reference and vocabulary. All lectures will be designed to encourage dialogue and will give the students a general background in the development of the performing arts, enabling the further study of areas of specific interest. It will deepen their appreciation of major theatrical styles and forms and art movements within the wider arts culture, allowing them to discuss ideas and concepts with a deeper understanding and sympathy.
