Aims
This module aims to provide you with an introduction to the fundamental skills and knowledge to generate confidence and ownership of the work you create. You will become familiar with storytelling techniques as part of ensemble creation and understand the requirements to work independently. You will recognise dramaturgical aspects of the work you encounter and begin to recognise the importance of research to select appropriate performance materials, enhance the presentational aspects of your work and hone your communication skills. You will discover greater creative freedom, confidence, and logic in your approach to acting.

Module Content
Outline Syllabus:
In this module you will be introduced to ensemble play and solo storytelling approaches. You will use your lived experience to generate your own original stories, as well as apply learned techniques to contemporary texts and heightened classic or verse speech. You will unearth the dramaturgical components of speech, recognising narrative arcs, and how to adjust and adapt this work for the camera. You will begin to master audition techniques and self-taping having built a portfolio of material suitable for industry auditions. The module culminates in the submission of digital materials plus a mock audition to test your preparation, presentation, and interview skills.

You work with ensemble and solo storytelling techniques, give life to self-generated stories, and work imaginatively with the dramaturgical and structural aspects of monologues to master auditioning and self-taping. By the end of this module, you will have a practical portfolio of industry standard audition material and will be armed with the technical approaches to execute this in a variety of contexts.
