Aims

This module aims to help students understand the importance of budgeting within a healthcare management role, including the definitions of budgeting and why it is needed. Efficiency, productivity and controlling costs will be explored in relation to defining value and decision making. Basic financial transactions within healthcare will be considered. On successful completion of this module, students will be able to manage basic budgets within healthcare whilst identifying efficiency savings and value for money.

Outline Syllabus:How is healthcare funded in the UK. International comparisons (e.g. USA, Germany, China) Constraints and challenges in healthcare funding How the national funding of Healthcare is impacted by the local funding of social care in UK Difference between Capital Funding and Revenue Funding and the impact of major policies such as Private Finance Initiatives
