Aims
This module provides an introduction to the field of biological anthropology, which is the major field from which forensic anthropology derives. Background to all the subfields of biological anthropology is provided. Biological anthropology is used as a case study to introduce the fundamentals of conducting scientific research, particularly report and essay writing.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Describe the discipline of biological anthropology and its different subfields.
2.
Summarise human evolution in terms of major trends and species.
3.
Present the results of research using appropriate techniques, such as graphing, mapping, tables or text.
4.
Convert raw data to results by arranging them into meaningful subsets, applying
appropriate descriptive or statistical tests and correctly interpreting and reporting
the results of these analyses.
