Aims
This module aims to help students to understand key theories and concepts relevant to policing, investigation and the wider criminal justice system by examining the chronological development of policing, investigation and other institutions within the system; landmark events; and their inter-relationship and relevance.
Learning Outcomes
1.
Describe the impact of historical developments in policing and investigation, together with contemporary investigative challenges and be able to identify whether such developments constrain future provision
2.
Recognise and explain practice responses (internally and externally) to shifts and trends in policing and criminal justice policy against wider social political landscapes
3.
Summarise contemporary debates around pluralisation, diversification and professional innovation of policing and investigative services, accountability and powers
4.
Write in a format and at a level required for Higher Education Study.

This module aims to help you understand key theories and concepts relevant to policing and the wider criminal justice system by examining the chronological development of policing and other institutions within the system, landmark events and their inter-relationship and relevance.
This module aims to help you understand key theories and concepts relevant to policing and the wider criminal justice system by examining the chronological development of policing and other institutions within the system, landmark events and their inter-relationship and relevance.
Additional Information:
This module seeks to provide a theoretically-orientated level consideration of policing and the role it holds within the criminal justice system. It examines policies and practices and the crucial interaction between them, within the overall context of the effectiveness of the systems operation.
There is a focus on the development or personal, individual skills particularly in relation to the use of Information Technologies within learning.
Cognisance is taken from the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours associated with the occupational standards as defined by the Institute for Apprentices and Technical Education
