Aims

This module aims to provide the students with knowledge and understanding of the fraud landscape as it relates to both public and private sector organisations. It includes: the cost of fraud in the UK, technological impact, vulnerabilities, offender type (serious organised crime or individual). Upon successful completion this module will enable the students to apply the knowledge to fraud investigations, to help identify and mitigate risk and prioritise accordingly.

Learning Outcomes

Understand the impact of fraud in the UK and the importance of prioritising investigations based on risk. Apply that knowledge in professional practice.

Evaluate the technology impact on fraud both in terms of an enabler and in fraud prevention, and apply that knowledge to a fraud investigation.
3.
Understand the role information and intelligence play in fraud investigations in both public and private sector organisations

Module Overview:
This module will provide apprentices with knowledge and understanding of the fraud landscape, how it has evolved and the impact of technology on it's rapid growth as one of the most common reported crimes in the UK. The cost of fraud will be discussed with the support of key reports both public and private sector, leading into the technology evolution and impact thereby, highlighting opportunities for investigators to identify and mitigate fraud risk. Apprentices will consider the value of information and intelligence for successfully identifying fraud patterns, trends and vulnerabilities, all whilst working within legal, ethical and professional boundaries. Understanding the offender will be important for the apprentice to ensure focus on investigation that present most risk. This will enable the apprentice to apply the knowledge to a variety of fraud related incidents and investigations.
