Aims

1. To develop students' understanding of effective uses of language across a range of forms of creative writing.
2. To introduce students to techniques of shaping and structuring texts across a range of forms.
3. To enable students to adopt a wide range of reading strategies, developing skills in reflection and critical analysis
4. To further develop students in good workshop practice at undergraduate level and enable students to engage in discussion and debate and exercises that reveal engagement with the course.
5. To further support students in developing strategies for creative expression.

Module Content

Outline Syllabus:
During the module students will:
1. Analyse effective uses of language in a range of texts and forms.
2. Use a range of starting points to generate their own original pieces of creative writing.
3. Focus on key aspects of the use of language and the techniques used to shape and form text.
4. Engage in close reading and textual analysis.
5. Engage in discussion of draft work, giving and receiving feedback.
Module Overview:
As with other Level 4 modules, this module is designed to encourage consistent engagement, with smaller assessment items that build on each other in terms of attention to language and form, providing both summative and formative feedback. This module aims to develop student skills in textual analysis and academic writing skills.
