Learning Outcomes
Module Content
Students will:
• Engage in in-class close reading, textual analysis and discussion, developing their confidence in sharing responses and ideas
• Be introduced to a variety of texts in different genres, including writers on writing and the creative process, personal essays, creative non-fiction, etc
• Share their own interests and enthusiasms as readers and be encouraged to develop a sense of how their own creative work can develop through this readerly engagement
• Be introduced to the importance of research for creative writers, and enabled to develop their own skills in research, using the library, referencing and bibliographies.
This module helps students become better writers by reading and understanding different kinds of writing. They'll explore what they like to write about, become more confident in sharing their ideas, and learn how research can make their writing better. This course mixes reading, writing, and research to make students well-rounded writers who can create great stories and essays.
This module has been designed to embed 'reading as a writer' essay writing skills as a foundation for the deeper levels of critical writing expected in Levels 5 and 6.
