Outline Syllabus:
Lectures and workshops will be delivered introducing the concepts from various traditions of theoretical inquiry in film studies, from the classical theories of realism and formalism and auteur theory to theoretical paradigms of identity politics. All theories will be studied through case studies and film analysis.

Module Overview:
This course surveys the history of the various traditions of theoretical inquiry in film studies. We investigate textual criticism (formalism, structuralism and auteur theory), identity politics, (feminism, masculinity, queer and disability theory and race) and various other theoretical paradigms.
